Kindergarten math · Unit 3: Sorting and counting

Earning money and getting gifts

What this lesson shows

Pay for raking leaves is earned, so it is income; a birthday dollar is a gift. Sort each one, and name a job that earns money.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: raking, card, watering, present: earned or a gift. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. A job earns money
  2. Earned money is income
  3. A gift is given
  4. Sort each one

Helping at home

Name each picture together. Ask: did someone do a job for this money? Your kid circles the money that is earned and puts an X on each gift. Talk about a job someone at home does.

If your kid gets stuck

Was there a job to do?
