1st grade math · Unit 7: Money and time

Reading a calendar

What this lesson shows

A month's page: 7 columns for the days, a row for each week. Find a date, count the Fridays, and name the date before and after.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: March (question 1). Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. 12 months in a year
  2. A column for each day
  3. A row for each week
  4. Up the column: the day
  5. Before and after: one less, one more

Helping at home

Read each question aloud. Your kid finds the date with a finger, then goes up its column to read the day. To count Fridays, they touch each date in the Friday column. Say the months in order together when a question asks for one.

If your kid gets stuck

Find the date, then go up its column.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
