2nd grade math · Unit 2: Even, odd, and equal groups

Even numbers end the same way

What this lesson shows

Count by 2s to 20. Even numbers end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8. 15 ends in 5, so it is odd.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: 15. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Count by 2s
  2. Even ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, 8
  3. Look at the last digit

Helping at home

Count by 2s to see the even numbers: they end in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8. Look at the last digit. If it is one of those, the number is even; if not, it is odd.

If your kid gets stuck

What does it end in?
