2nd grade math · Unit 2: Even, odd, and equal groups

Same pattern, new look

What this lesson shows

Circle, circle, square repeats, so its core is A A B. The same core shows as numbers, 1 1 2, and as claps. Then extend each by two more cores.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: circle, circle, square, circle, circle, square, ... Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Find the core
  2. Give each shape a letter
  3. Write it as numbers or sounds
  4. Same core, same pattern

Helping at home

Your kid names each shape with a letter, writes the core, then writes it again with 1, 2, and 3. Clap and stomp it together. Ask: "Is it still the same pattern?"

If your kid gets stuck

The first shape is A. A new shape gets the next letter.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
