2nd grade math · Unit 6: Money

Saving adds up

What this lesson shows

Save $3 every week: 3, 6, 9, 12. After 4 weeks there is $12. Saving is choosing not to spend now, to have more later.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: $3 a week for 4 weeks. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. One row a week
  2. Add the same each week
  3. The last row is the total

Helping at home

Read each problem aloud. Your kid makes a table, one row a week, and adds the same dollars each time. Ask what they would have if they spent it each week instead.

If your kid gets stuck

Make a table: one row a week.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
