What this lesson shows
A picture of a solid: 2 cubes in front, 2 behind, and 1 on top at the back left. Build it one layer at a time and count the cube hidden under the top one: 5 cubes in all.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: cubes stacked 1 1 / 2 1. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- Count the cubes you see
- A top cube needs one under it
- Build the bottom layer first
- Add the layers
Helping at home
Give your kid real blocks or sugar cubes if you have them. Build each picture one layer at a time, starting on the table. Ask: "Is a cube hiding under that top one?"
If your kid gets stuck
Start with the bottom layer. A top cube needs a cube under it.
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
