The unknown anywhere

What this lesson shows

7 × n = 56, n ÷ 6 = 5, 3 = n ÷ 12, each turned into a known fact.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: 3 = n ÷ 12. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Read what it says
  2. Turn it into a fact you know
  3. Work it out
  4. Put it back to check

Helping at home

Read the equation aloud with "is the same as" for the equal sign. Then ask what number is missing, and turn it into a fact you know: a missing factor is found by dividing, a missing number that was divided by multiplying. Put the number back in place of n to check.

If your kid gets stuck

Say it with "is the same as" for the equal sign.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
