What this lesson shows
Cut a 6 by 4 rectangle corner to corner: two equal triangles. The rectangle is 24, so each triangle's area is half, 12.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: 6 by 4. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- Draw the rectangle around it
- Rectangle: length × width
- Triangle: half of that
- Height is at a right angle
Helping at home
Draw the rectangle with the same base and height around the triangle. Find the rectangle’s area, length times width, then take half: the triangle covers exactly half. The height goes straight up from the base, at a right angle.
If your kid gets stuck
What is the rectangle around it?
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
