What this lesson shows
Toss a coin and roll a number cube: list every pair, or multiply 2 × 6 = 12 outcomes. Heads and a 3 is 1 of 12, so its probability is 1/12.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: coin and number cube: heads and 3. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- A row for each outcome of the first
- A column for each outcome of the second
- Rows times columns: every outcome
- One pair: 1 out of all of them
Helping at home
Make a table: a row for each outcome of the first event, a column for each outcome of the second. Your kid fills every box with its pair, checks the count by multiplying, and writes the one pair out of all of them.
If your kid gets stuck
Rows for the first, columns for the second.
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
