2nd grade math · Unit 10: Data

Read the bar's height

What this lesson shows

Fixes a mistake

On a scale of fives, a bar ends on the line between 30 and 40. That line is 35. Read straight across.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: soccer 35, baseball 20, swimming 10, key 5. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Read straight across
  2. No number? It is halfway
  3. Halfway is 5 more

Helping at home

Read straight across from the top of the bar to the scale. A line with no number halfway between 30 and 40 is 35.

If your kid gets stuck

Halfway between is 5 more.

Watch it with Lux

With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
