What this lesson shows
A question: which bird visits the feeder most? Data can be photos of each bird, the songs heard, or a count in tally marks. Monday and Tuesday give different counts: data can vary.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: Monday 7, 3, 2; Tuesday 3, 4, 6. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- Data answers a question
- Pictures, sounds, numbers
- Data can vary
Helping at home
Ask what question the counts could answer. Your kid makes a tally chart for both days, then says which bird came most each day. Talk about other data you could collect: a photo or a recording.
If your kid gets stuck
One tally mark for each bird.
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
