What this lesson shows
How many kids go to our school: 5, 50, or 500? One class has about 20 kids, and a school has many classes, so 500 makes sense. 5 is too few for even one class.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: school: 5, 50, 500. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- Start with what you know
- Too few? Cross it out
- Too many? Cross it out
- Pick the one that makes sense
Helping at home
Read each question aloud. Ask your kid what they already know that is close, like one class or one bus seat. Then try each estimate: is it too few, too many, or does it make sense?
If your kid gets stuck
Start with something you know, like one class.
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
