Kindergarten math · Unit 8: Shapes

Four flat shapes

What this lesson shows

Circle, triangle, rectangle, and square: count the sides and corners. A circle has neither.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: square (question 1). Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Circle: round, no corners
  2. Triangle: 3 sides
  3. Rectangle: 4 sides, square corners
  4. Square: 4 sides the same

Helping at home

Read each box aloud. Your kid circles every one of that shape, big or small, turned or not. Ask "how many sides? how many corners?" for each.

If your kid gets stuck

Count the sides and the corners.
