What this lesson shows
A line graph of a puppy's weight climbs 3 pounds a month: predict about 21 pounds next month, and only a little past the data. To find the gain from month 2 to month 4, pick those two rows out of the table. Then show the same weights as a bar graph.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: a puppy: 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 pounds. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- Read the climb each month
- Predict a little past the data
- Pick only the rows you need
- Same data, another graph
Helping at home
Read each problem aloud. Your kid graphs the weights, finds how much the line climbs each month, and predicts the next month by adding that much. Ask your kid to say the prediction in a sentence and to write it. Then circle only the two months the question asks about, and draw the same weights as bars.
If your kid gets stuck
Same climb each month: add it once more.
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
