Kindergarten math · Unit 1: Counting to 20

Don't skip a number

What this lesson shows

Fixes a mistake

Counting out 17 as "14, 15, 17" gives only 16 counters. Every number gets its own counter.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: 17 of 20 stars. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Know the number
  2. Say every number
  3. One thing for each number
  4. Stop at the number

Helping at home

Read each box aloud. Your kid circles one thing for each number, saying every number out loud. Listen for the teen numbers: 13, 14, 15, 16, 17.

If your kid gets stuck

Every number gets its own thing. Say each one.
