Kindergarten math · Unit 1: Counting to 20

The last number tells how many

What this lesson shows

Fixes a mistake

Asked "how many?", say the last number counted, 6. There is no need to count again.

The worked example

The lesson works this one step by step: 6 balls. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.

The steps

  1. Count each one once
  2. Remember the last number
  3. Asked how many? Say it
  4. No need to count again

Helping at home

Read each box aloud. After your kid counts, ask "how many?" once more. The answer is the last number they said, with no counting again.

If your kid gets stuck

Count once. Then say how many without counting again.
