What this lesson shows
A ten frame shows 8 as a full row of 5 and 3 more, and 13 as a full frame and 3 more. See the parts and say the total without counting each dot.
The worked example
The lesson works this one step by step: 8 dots in a ten frame. Then your kid tries one like it on paper.
The steps
- A full row is 5
- A full frame is 10
- 5 and some more, 10 and some more
- Say how you saw it
Helping at home
Show each box for a moment, then cover it. Your kid says the parts they saw, like "5 and 3" or "10 and 3", then writes the total. Ask how they saw it, not only how many.
If your kid gets stuck
Find the full row or the full frame first.
Watch it with Lux
With Lux, this lesson is a narrated video and a printed page your kid works on. Then Lux helps with the same math on their own worksheet, one question at a time.
